Leorio Paradinight initially presents himself as a money-minded, hot-headed young man, but his apparent greed hides a much more compassionate goal: after losing a friend to an illness that could have been treated if the money for medical care had been available, he decides to become a doctor so he can provide treatment to people who cannot afford it. He is fiercely loyal to Gon, Killua, and Kurapika and often takes on the role of the group's outspoken big brother, with his tendency to argue, complain, and act impulsively contrasting with the genuine kindness behind his actions.

As a Hunter, Leorio possesses considerable physical strength and stamina, along with medical knowledge that becomes increasingly important as he pursues his goal of becoming a doctor. His Nen type is Emission, and his signature ability allows him to transmit his aura through a surface and create a remote punch that emerges from a spatial opening at his target, allowing him to strike opponents from a distance.
